A 129.2 kilogram marlin was hauled in off the coast of Puniho Rd near Okato yesterday.
Kerry ''Boots'' Brophy was the man behind the catch which ended a six-year marlin drought for the Cape Egmont Boat Club.
It took the seasoned fisherman more than 40 minutes to pull it in along with the much appreciated assistance of his skipper, Diver.
''It was bloody hard work, I'll tell you that.''
Mr Brophy said it was the first marlin he had ever caught, and would probably be the only - for a while at least.
''I think I've done my dash with the marlin. It was tough work.
''I'm in recovery mode today, that's for sure.''
