A 36-year-old worker from the Fonterra plant at Kapuni cut off two of his fingers yesterday morning.

The Taranaki Community Rescue Helicopter flew the man to Waikato Hospital for surgery.

St John Ambulance district operations manager Ian May said the man amputated his fingers around 9am while working on a valve at Fonterra Lactose.

The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment has been notified and will be investigating.
