Business development expert John Haylock reckons he has found the perfect way to get his development messages across to potential clients - turn them into story form.
The New Plymouth man has just written his first business novel.
Absolute Certainty - How to give your clients exactly what they want is a yarn about an accountant who feels that no matter how hard he works, he's never in control.
But then he meets a graphic designer who is preparing to enter the local business awards - and this sets him off on a journey of business discovery.
John Haylock says it is an entertaining and informative book that uses story-telling to show owners of service businesses and professional service firms how to look at their operations from the point of view of their clients.
Mr Haylock says he didn't intend writing a business novel.
"But then I realised that the business books that have had the greatest impact on me were all novels," he says.
"So my book is the same. Business advice is much easier to understand and more memorable when it is wrapped up in a story."
He says his book can be read in a long lunch break - yet will provide readers with a wealth of ideas.
"Every business owner would want the results like those achieved by the businesses in Absolute Certainty.
"Higher prices, better cash flow, less stress, more free time, and happier clients. Isn't that what being in business is supposed to be about?"
Mr Haylock's now book is scheduled for launch in March.
