Taranaki architects found a vein of winning form at the 2012 Western Architecture Awards recently, picking up more than half the awards that were given out.
The night was particularly successful for New Plymouth architecture firm Boon Goldsmith Bhaskar Team Architects, which won five awards.
Four came in the interior architecture section, with awards for work on the Antunovic bathroom in Oakura, Cameron Buckley House in New Plymouth, the JRI offices and for Powerco.
Its final award came in the commercial category for the design of Energy City Motor's new dealership in New Plymouth.
Two other New Plymouth projects recognised were Lloyd house, designed by Saunders Architects, and Plymouth Road Farmhouse, designed by Ian Pritchard.
The awards are for architects in the Taranaki, Whanganui, Manawatu and Horowhenua regions. Awards jury convenor and Whanganui architect Duncan Sinclair said the awards showed the scope of work architects undertook.
"They also show that no matter the scale of a building, architects can make a big difference to the quality of its design.
"We are finding this is a particular priority of clients in current economic conditions."
Taranaki projects picked up seven of the 12 awards.
