A fifth-generation Taranaki lad will take the helm of the region's flagship media company next year.
Adrian Sole has been appointed by Fairfax Media to the new role of senior commercial development manager at the Taranaki Daily News.
The position replaces the general manager's position held by Mike Brewer, who left to work for Rhema Broadcasting Group this month.
Sole, 43, has spent the past five years as the sales and marketing manager for New Plymouth-based coffee roaster Inca-Fe.
He will start at the Taranaki Daily News on February 4.
Sole's background includes senior roles working with premium consumer brands and telecommunications companies.
Yesterday Sole said he was looking forward to getting out and about in the community, a side of the media business that drew him to the job.
"The paper's the heart of any community. It's facing some challenges and I was looking for something like that."
He said he planned to spend the first six months getting a feel for the market and knowing what Taranaki wanted from its paper.
"My gut feeling is they really want to hear about the community spirit - the things that make the province tick," he said.
"I do want to make sure that what we do is building on the what Mike and the rest of the team have already done."
A Warea boy, Sole said he has a keen interest in dirt bikes and trail riding, a passion that takes him to other parts of the region.
"Places like Hurleyville, Mokau, Tarata, Purangi, all those great places.
"And a lot of New Zealanders and even Taranaki people have never seen our great heartland."
Fairfax central region general manager Gerard Watt said while Sole was new to publishing, his experience in leading sales and marketing teams and his extensive knowledge of information and communications technology means he is a welcome addition to the senior team.
