Dot kiwi web names to be released today

An alternative internet domain name choice - .kiwi - for websites and email addresses will soon be available for New Zealanders and their firms.

The most valuable profession names available for New Zealand businesses is headed by valued at just over $20,300.

Dot Kiwi Ltd's chief executive Timothy Johnson said specific care had been taken in valuing premium domain names. "All premium names have been valued in collaboration with third parties that specialise in valuing domain names around the globe."

Premium domains would start at $500, with an annual renewal fee of about $40 a year.

And for the first time it would provide the opportunity for a 100 per cent te reo Maori domain name.

Historically, when it came to generic domain name choices it was limited with just 22 available worldwide. But the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, which is responsible for co-ordinating the Internet's domain name system, had broadened the domain name base. It received more than 1900 applications for alternative names.

Dot Kiwi was successful and releases its premium name list today. The list includes the most valuable domain names, plus generic words and phrases already searched for online such as
