Fonterra and United States marketing co-operative DairyAmerica's 13-year export deal ends on August 1.

Under the deal, signed in 2001, Fonterra acted as DairyAmerica's export agent for skim milk powder.

DairyAmerica's members account for about 45 per cent of the non-fat and skim milk powder made in the US.

NZX Agri analyst Susan Kilby said that DairyAmerica was one of the biggest US dairy exporters, but the US had not been a big dairy exporter in global terms. Fairfax NZ
