The Taranaki Chamber of Commerce has announced the appointment of an interim chief executive.

Board member Scott Schorr will fill the role until a new person is appointed to the job.

The chamber's former general manager Judith Gilmer left the role at the end of December after six years in the job.

Mr Schorr said he was asked to take on the role while the organisation continued to seek a fulltime person for the position.

"I love the business community here, so I said yes."

He said he would not be applying for the job himself, as he had two businesses to run - a music publishing company called Lazy Bones Recordings and business coaching practice Schorr Business Coaching.

The 49-year-old, originally from Seattle, Washington, said he had lived with his wife in Taranaki for seven years and had recently been granted New Zealand citizenship.

He has a bachelor's degree in business economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
