A chemical spill at the Mainfreight depot in Bell Block sparked an emergency call-out at 8.20am today.
New Plymouth fire service assistant area manager John Nicholls said it was a "minor chemical spill" which happened after a plastic container containing hydrochloric acid was punctured by a forklift.
Less than 20 litres of hydrochloric acid was spilled, Nicholls said.
Four appliances from the New Plymouth Fire Station attended the call.
The building was evacuated while firefighters cleaned the spill.
