Firearms and farm bikes are among items that have been stolen during a recent spate of burglaries in and around Hawera.

Senior Sergeant Mike Hannah said the first burglary happened overnight on April 28, when a 42 inch flat screen television was stolen from a sleepout at a Burns St address.

This was followed by a rural burglary of a South Rd property on May 1.

Hannah said two Honda farm bikes, coloured red and white, were stolen from the address.

He said police wanted to hear from anyone with information, including people who may have been approached to buy one of the motorbikes.

Another burglary the police are seeking information about occurred at a rural address in Okaiawa sometime between May 2 and 3.

Hannah said a shotgun and .22 rifle were stolen from the address, as was a vehicle.

He said he wanted to hear from anyone who had seen a blue coloured Mitsubishi Lancer with the registration of BQU680 in the area.

Anyone with information about the South Rd burglary should contact Detective Constable Kelly Povey from the Hawera Police.

Anyone with information about the other burglaries can contact the Hawera station on 06 2780260.

Opinion poll

The lower drink-driving limits from December are:

Great - too much carnage on our roads.

Overkill - targets moderate drinkers, not the heavies

Still too little - make it zero tolerance.

Sensible - punishment is in line with lesser breaches of limit.
