New Plymouth police were on patrol last night slowing down traffic to warn them of a diesel spill that went down Vivian St to Morley St.

The spill disrupted peak hour traffic in central New Plymouth.

The spill started on Vivian St, between Dawson and Morley St and around onto Devon St West.

Senior Constable Grant Kennard said he didn't know where the spill had come from but it had caused a few problems.

"Luckily there were no accidents. There were people losing control, but regaining it before they got into trouble. There were a few close calls."

Contractors were called in to clear up the diesel.

Do you have faith in police solving burglaries?

Yes - there's no faulting their commitment.

Mostly, but they are under-resourced.

Sort of - depends on when and where.

Not really - clearly a low priority for them.

Absolutely not.

Not sure - luckily I've never been burgled.
