Two pedestrians have been taken to hospital after two separate crashes in New Plymouth tonight.

A woman has been taken to hospital with critical head injuries after being hit by a car at 5.20pm outside Spotswood Primary School, Inspector Dave Rose from police central communications said.

St John Ambulance district operations manager Ian May said the middle-aged woman's head injuries were critical.

Speed restrictions were in place while police conducted a scene examination and the car was towed.

Just after 6pm another pedestrian was hit by a car on the corner of Vivian St and Robe St.

Rose said the female pedestrian had been taken to hospital by ambulance.

Five pedestrians have died on Taranaki roads so far this year.

Will Aaron Cruden's omission hurt or help the All Blacks?

Hurt - he needs as much game time as possible.

Help - finally Beauden Barrett will get a proper run.

Hmmm - no biggie, just a temporary hitch.

Who is Cruden? I support the All Whites.
