The World Cup has only just started but one Kiwi punter has already scored big, taking home more than $113,000 after a $40 bet.
He chose a four-leg multi-bet, correctly picking who would lead at halftime and fulltime in Japan v Ivory Coast, Ecuador v Switzerland, France v Honduras and Argentina v Bosnia and Herzegovina.
A total of $113,725 was collected at odds of 2844-1.
"You don't see that sort of collect very often," the TAB's senior football bookmaker Gary Pearn said.
The punter had his fair share of luck, for example, when Switzerland scored in stoppage time to defeat Ecuador. "Bosnia also scored in the last five minutes against Argentina in a 2-1 loss, so that would have been a pretty nervous time."
Kiwi punters had bet $4 million on the football World Cup already, Pearn said.
A lack of draws so far meant the TAB was "getting murdered" on each match. "But there's a long way to go."
Six people are still in the running for the one shot at $5 million.
