Catriona and Timothy Beale will be making cupcakes and meeting new friends during the school holidays.
The brother and sister were among 15 children who signed-up for a two-week holiday programme run by YMCA Taranaki. Swimming, minigolf and 10-pin bowling are among the activities planned.
Catriona and Timothy were getting ready to bake red velvet cupcakes as part of a team challenge when the Taranaki Daily News met with them yesterday.
It was the Beales' first time taking part in the holiday programme and Catriona said she was "really excited" about it.
The 12-year-old said her holidays were usually spent "sitting in front" of the TV and she decided to give the programme a go after her cousin told her how much fun it was.
YMCA senior supervisor Tera Dunn said the cupcake challenge allowed the children to learn important teamwork skills.
"They get split into different teams, working with different people they don't normally work with and seeing what they can create," Dunn said.
Roller skating, gymsports and two big day out activities were on the agenda for South Taranaki children.
The first big day out event is tomorrow with a trip to Whanganui. The day will start with games at the YMCA, followed by lunch at Burger King and a visit to the Splash Centre.
A visit to New Plymouth is planned for July 18 to watch the movie Tarzan in 3D and a game of 10-pin bowling wraps up the day.
