An Eltham woman who claimed she had been raped was sentenced in court this week for making a false complaint to police.

Elizabeth Atkinson, 58, unemployed, appeared before Judge Max Courtney in the Hawera District Court yesterday.

She had pleaded guilty to the charge at an earlier appearance.

Police prosecutor Steve Hickey said 40 hours of police time had been spent on the case before it was confirmed Atkinson had made a false complaint against her partner.

Courtney said the offending was serious and a significant amount of police time had been wasted.

In sentencing Atkinson, the judge acknowledged her lack of previous offending, and convicted and discharged her.

Will Aaron Cruden's omission hurt or help the All Blacks?

Hurt - he needs as much game time as possible.

Help - finally Beauden Barrett will get a proper run.

Hmmm - no biggie, just a temporary hitch.

Who is Cruden? I support the All Whites.
