Contractors have accidentally damaged another underground cable while installing ultrafast broadband lines, cutting power to Bell Block.

A hundred properties lost power for 10 hours in the Links subdivision on Wednesday after Transfield Services contractors damaged a section of cables on Powerco's electricity network.

The incident follows 111 water pipes and 104 sewer pipes being struck by contractors involved in the ultra fast broadband rollout in Taranaki. A Transfield Services spokesman said the company was provided with a set of plans from the utility company before starting work.

Underground work was then carried out using the plans, he said.

The spokesman would not comment on how much Transfield had paid to repair the damage.

He said the company apologised for the inconvenience it caused Bell Block residents. The incident is being investigated.

"We're looking closely at our processes to minimise the likelihood of similar incidents occurring in the future," he said.
