A Taranaki woman stole from everyone in the community when she illegally collected more than $40,000 in benefits over a 4 year period, a judge says.
Anita Marie Ross admitted 11 charges of benefit fraud totalling $40,361.82, the New Plymouth District Court heard last week.
Ross was on a sickness benefit and then got a job, failing to notify the Department of Social Development.
From a start point of 14 months' jail, Judge Tony Couch reduced it to acknowledge both the guilty plea to four months and 14 days' home detention. Reparation repayments were ordered.
