Jane Severn has the key to unlock the mysteries of menstruation, menopause and mature life and will be bringing it to Taranaki today.
The Christchurch-based psychotherapist, intuitive therapist and menstruality educator will be running workshops for the next week in Oakura at the invitation of local woman Belinda Willis.
Used to resistance from sceptics, Ms Severn said it was difficult to explain in simple terms what she did but it centred around changing modern beliefs about menstruation and menopause that only made life harder.
"I think women, and because of this men as well, have suffered a lot because menstruation is something we have come to see as an interruption in our lives rather than a natural part of it," she said. By dealing with the monthly occurrence as an annoyance rather than accepting it as part of their lives, some women could become angry and frustrated over time as they denied their body's natural rhythm.
There are times of the month when women have high amounts of physical, emotional and spiritual energy and other times when that was low. They needed to plan their life around it, Ms Severn said.
Men, however, had a more constant energy flow, she said.
Ms Willis, a registered surveyor in Oakura, agreed it was hard to describe just what Ms Severn did but after listening to her talk women often experienced a profound change in their lives.
"It's about reconnecting with the ancient women's cycle that we have but have all forgotten."
