The Pouakai Circuit in the Egmont National Park has been closed to trampers until further notice after the swingbridge on the Kaiauai Track section was washed out.

The 23km circuit, regarded as one of the park's premier attractions, was opened only two years ago, boasting 6km of boardwalk and 21 staircases.

However, the circuit will remain closed until the Department of Conservation has investigated options to replace the swingbridge. Trampers can still walk from North Egmont via Holly Hut to the Pouakai Hut, however they must return that same way or leave via the Mangorei track.
