Taranaki lost a gifted teacher, artist, and author yesterday after New Plymouth's Tim Chadwick was killed in a car accident at Piopio yesterday.
The 47-year-old Inglewood High School art teacher died at the scene after his car failed to take a bend and rolled at 11.12am.
Inglewood principal Rosey Mabin said the school was shocked and deeply saddened by the news.
"An infectious, much-loved teacher, Tim's passion for his subject was unmistakable.
"His vibrant, lovely personality made his art classroom a warm, inviting environment and little wonder students flocked to be in his classes."
Mr Chadwick was an inspirational teacher who brought out the best in his students, many of whom returned in later years to tell him of their success.
"His avid interest in life, people and all things to do with art made him much fun to be with; he was always excellent and entertaining company.
"His love and zest for life was energising and it is no exaggeration to say that Tim was a vital part of the fabric of the school and he will be greatly missed."
Growing up in Hawera, Mr Chadwick attended high school there and returned there to teach for 13 years, before moving to Inglewood 10 years ago.
Mr Chadwick had a real passion for motoring, owning several classic cars and trucks.
He wrote a weekly motoring column in the South Taranaki Star, articles for motoring magazines, and had books published by Grantham House and HarperCollins.
Mr Chadwick is survived by his two children.
