Chilean ex-pat Aileen Katanella is delighted with the response from Womad festival goers to raise money for her devastated homeland.
Originally from Santiago, Mrs Katanella has had family caught up in the devastation from the February 27 earthquake, and organised the bucket collection with the Red Cross at the four Womad entrances on Friday.
The 10-person volunteer team collected $1965.90 from revellers coming in.
"Thank you to the people from Womad and all the people who donated money. Thank you to Womad organiser Suzanne Porter for allowing them to do collection," Mrs Katanella said.
"I'm stoked, very happy, and also looking forward to this Saturday in Okato. There is a carnival, and then the Taranaki Multicultural Extravaganza on March 27."
Mrs Katanella will have a stall at the multicultural extravaganza.
The money from Womad has been deposited into the TSB Bank's Chile account set up last week.
After the extravaganza, the balance in the account will be transferred to the Red Cross national office, for forwarding directly to the Chile Red Cross.
