Baby among crash victims

A five-month-old baby was among four people taken to hospital following a car crash at a New Plymouth intersection yesterday morning.
The two-car crash happened at the intersection of Mangorei Rd and State Highway 3 south of New Plymouth about 11.45am.
The New Plymouth Fire Brigade cut one person from a car and the six crash victims were attended by TDHB paramedics. Four were then taken to hospital, including an 18-year-old woman with severe injuries including a suspected broken pelvis and leg, a 22-year-old woman with moderate neck and back pain, a five-month-old boy who was "generally shaken" and a 21-year-old woman with minor cuts and abrasions.
A motocross rider was flown to hospital after falling 10m down a steep hill at a trail ride in Waikawau yesterday after-noon.
The 24-year-old man suffered back and pelvis injuries and a suspected broken arm.
He was treated by St John first aid staff at the scene and then flown to Taranaki Base Hospital in the Taranaki Community Rescue Helicopter.
