A South Taranaki man had to be subdued by police with a taser after he terrorised Patea locals with a knife and tomahawk on Saturday morning.
About 6am police received phone calls from distressed members of the public saying the 60-year-old man was brandishing a large boning knife and tomahawk and threatening people.
Sergeant Ivan Smith, of Hawera, said police acted quickly after they received complaints that the man was threatening to hurt people.
"He was brandishing the weapons in a few different locations around Patea," Mr Smith said.
Mr Smith said the man was subdued with a taser and no one was hurt.
The man will appear in the New Plymouth District Court today to face weapons and threatening charges.
