After 10 weeks' theory, study, and preparation, the children of Bell Block School received their reward, with an excellent turnout of visitors for their Science Extravaganza.
All 320 pupils at the school, aged 5 to 13, contributed to the large displays which filled the Bell Block Hall last night. There were home-made steamboats, food colouring explosions, exhibits on what soap does to oil, chemistry experiments and features on the Earth.
Teacher and organiser Andrew Georgeson said students were encouraged to take on projects that "explore, experiment, explain".
The displays were a culmination of all that work, he said. "There's lots of different concepts. The whole emphasis was getting in there and doing stuff."
The families of the children came out in full support for a large crowd to fill the hall.
Entertainment was provided up on the hall stage by the school's dance groups, kapa haka and choir.
There was also an information meeting for year 7 and year 8 students.
