Zumba lovers worked up a sweat at the Huatoki Plaza yesterday to raise money for Christchurch Women's Refuge in response to police reports that domestic violence had escalated after Saturday's earthquake.
Event organiser and Zumba instructor Charmaine Sutherland said she wanted to show some love.
"After the earthquake I was listening to people call in on the radio and I heard so many stories which pulled on my heart strings. There are families sleeping under doorways because they're so scared."
New Zealand was so small that most people were affected by the Women's Refuge's work.
The New Plymouth District Council helped co-ordinate the event. Proceeds went to the mayoral relief fund which has so far raised $4500.
