Big tribute to late artist
Popular Taranaki teacher, artist and scooter enthusiast Tim Chadwick was the focus of this year's Womad Art Wall.
Mr Chadwick died in a car accident near Piopio last year, shortly after contributing to the Art Wall at 2010's festival.
"The anniversary was only sort of a couple of days ago so I just thought it fitting," mural organiser and contributor Phil Jones said.
The Inglewood High School teacher had brought a really "good vibe" to the project last year, Jones said.
"He was really stoked with it afterwards. He said `It's just like jazz, we're just improvising jazz'. He was loving it," Jones said.
This year's mural, created by seven Taranaki artists in front of the crowds at the festival, featured a large portrait of Mr Chadwick among other motifs.
Jones said he had selected a diverse array of artists from New Plymouth's small arts community.
In a final tribute to Mr Chadwick, the mural he painted last year was displayed alongside this year's effort. "I really enjoyed Tim's work," Jones said. He had a "very talented Kiwiana style of quirky artwork".
