Nothing half-baked in scone victory
The mother-and-daughter team of Candy Hopson and Paytn Cameron hit the trifecta last night by hanging on to their scone-baking title for the third year running.
The annual Great Eltham Cheese Scone competition, at the Eltham Town Hall, drew more than 150 people to cheer on the best bakers the town could muster.
Ms Hopson said when she saw her competition, including Whanganui MP Chester Borrows and Miss Taranaki Aleisha Carter, she knew she had it in the bag. "We went into it pretty confident," she said.
The pair, unsurprisingly, still refuse to reveal their secret winning formula. "Go away. I'm not telling."
Failed cheese scone maker Brian Jeffares said he was bitterly disappointed the Four Square judges could not be bribed.
There were several categories including celebrity master scone, junior master scone and the cheese scone competition.
