Firefighters and ambulance staff are at the scene of a house fire in Coastal Taranaki.

Firefighters are working to extinguish a fire at a Coastal Taranaki home.

Fire communications shift manager Carlos Dempsey said crews from Okato and Rahotu had been called to the Mid Puniho Rd house about 3.30pm.

The first fire engine arrived and a second alarm was triggered and crews from New Plymouth, Oakura and Opunake were also called in.

The blaze was in the roof of the house but had been contained and firefighters were now working to put it out completely, Dempsey said.

Everyone was accounted for and an ambulance at the scene was a precaution, he said.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage.
