Police have named the Hawera woman killed after her car and a truck collided near Normanby yesterday.
Suzanne Joy Andrews, 58, a dental nurse, died at the scene after her Toyota Corolla crossed the centre line on State Highway 3 and crashed into the truck. Her family members have been informed and police inquiries into the crash are continuing.
The accident happened just before 4.30pm and the highway was closed for four hours while the vehicles were removed and the road cleared..
Diversions were put in place at both Ohangai Rd and Glover Rd.
"Indications are that the car crossed into the other lane but we're not sure if she crossed one or two lanes as it was on a passing lane," Hawera Sergeant Kim Severinsen said.
"She has somehow gone into the path of the truck and they have collided."
Commercial vehicle investigators are also making inquiries into the cause of the crash.
The driver of the truck was taken to Hawera Hospital with leg injuries.
Mr Severinsen said the road was damp but it was not raining at the time of the crash.
There were a lot of witnesses and police will be speaking with them as part of their investigations.
