An 18-year-old woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries after a head-on crash in Waitara yesterday evening.
Her car was seriously damaged when it collided with a 4WD vehicle at the intersection of Devon St and Nelson St around 6:30pm.
Constable Kylie Brophy said the woman's car was written off.
"The woman in the car turned in front of the 4WD as it was coming down the hill."
Firefighters used the jaws of life to free the woman from her car, Waitara deputy fire chief Greg Cox said.
The road was closed while the vehicles were removed.
An ambulance took the woman to Taranaki Base Hospital and minor abrasions were suffered by the male driver of the 4WD.
Police said they would be investigating.
