Former Fonterra chief executive Andrew Ferrier is to head the New Zealand Trade and Enterprise board.
Ferrier, a Canadian who left Fonterra in September after eight years, replaces Jon Mayson.
His appointment starts in November for three years.
Ferrier is a director of Orion Health and CANZ Capital, an investment company he started with his wife when he left Fonterra, New Zealand's biggest company.
He was appointed to the Auckland University Council this year and has been a New Zealand citizen since 2008.
The Government has also announced the reappointment of businesswoman Julie Christie, consultant Charles Finny and Canterbury Employers Chamber of Commerce chief executive Peter Townsend for a second term.
