Oakura surfer Paige Hareb has retained her spot on the Dream Tour after progressing in to the third round of the Nike US Open of surfing in California.

Hareb met fellow Kiwi surfer Sarah Mason in the second round of the final Dream Tour event of the year, a must win heat to keep her qualification hopes alive.

The Taranaki surfer was ranked 10th equal with Australian surfer Rebecca Woods going into the event, with the highest placed surfer qualifying automatically for the 2013 tour.

After securing the win over Mason, 13.0 points to 8.10 points, Hareb watched on as Woods took on French surfer Pauline Ado in the final heat of round two.

Ado's combined two-wave heat score of 13.50 points was easily enough to get past Woods who could only muster a heat total of 6.54.

The result secured Hareb's place on next year's tour, her fourth consecutive year on the elite women's tour.
