A memorial service for the Topec instructor swept to sea last month will be held on Saturday.

Bryce John Jourdain, 42, jumped into the sea to try and save two Spotswood College pupils after they fell during a rock climbing exercise on August 8.

Mr Jourdain and two 17-year-old students, Felipe Melo and Stephen Kahukaka-Gedye, are presumed to have drowned. The body of Felipe was found near Paritutu rock.

A celebration of Mr Jourdain's life will be held at Ryder Hall at New Plymouth Boys' High School at 1.30pm. On Sunday friends and family are invited to Topec between 10am and 2pm.

The lower drink-driving limits from December are:

Great - too much carnage on our roads.

Overkill - targets moderate drinkers, not the heavies

Still too little - make it zero tolerance.

Sensible - punishment is in line with lesser breaches of limit.
