A cow was put down after a trailer crashed into grazing stock on State Highway Three this morning.
The crash occurred in the Uruti Valley, just north of Urenui about 8.30am.
Waitara constable Aaron Peters said the crash was the direct result of a diesel spill.
"The car has come round the corner and the trailer has slipped on diesel and slid into stock on the side of the road," he said.
"There were no injuries just damage to the trailer.'
Mr Peters said the diesel spill was from a truck and inquires into which truck it came from and who owned it were continuing.
Anyone with information about the diesel spill should contact Waitara police, Mr Peters said.
