Huge hail stones auctioned on Trade Me to raise funds for the Taranaki Rescue Helicopter sold for $51 last night - but will earn a lot more.
Last Wednesday Taranaki man and University of Canterbury student Matthew Girvan put up for sale a collection of 14 hail stones that fell during last Tuesday's electrical storm in Christchurch.
All proceeds from the sale would go to support the Taranaki Rescue Helicopter Trust, he said.
The auction attracted nearly 30,000 page views and dozens of questions.
Last night Mr Girvan said the winning bidder, Kane Boyd, had pledged $1000 each to the rescue chopper trust and also the Christchurch rescue helicopter.
