A series of burglaries at unsecured buildings in South Taranaki has police asking people to be more security conscious.

Two mountain bikes, a battery and battery drill were taken from a Hawera house in Milmoe St recently.

Also two unregistered scooters were taken from a rear shed in Camberwell Rd and a television was stolen from a rural address.

Sergeant Lincoln McCrea said people needed to check their windows, sheds and garages to make sure they were locked to prevent opportunist burglaries.
