The woman thought to be New Plymouth's oldest resident died peacefully at Molly Ryan Rest Home yesterday, aged 106.

Flora Benton had lived at the rest home and retirement village since it opened 19 years ago.

In her 106 years, she tried her hand at almost everything - from mechanics to opera singing to hockey, milking cows and flying planes.

Mrs Benton was a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
