Police want to hear from anyone who may have witnessed a man try to lure a teenage girl into his car last week.
The New Plymouth CIB is investigating the incident, which occurred outside New Plymouth Girls High School, on Mangorei Rd, close to the Northgate intersection between 1pm and 2.30pm last Friday.
The girl was walking on the footpath towards the intersection when a black car stopped beside her, police said.
The driver called out to her through the window before he got out of the car and crossed onto the footpath towards her.
Another car slowed down and that driver called out to check on the girl, who then ran into the school.
The driver of the black car is described as a male in his forties or fifties with grey stubble. He was wearing a hoodie over his head.
The girl was unhurt in the incident.
Police are keen to hear from the driver of the vehicle that slowed down the check on the girl, or anyone who saw a black car stop and the driver get out and approach a pedestrian at that intersection on Friday afternoon.
Anyone with information can contact Detective Mike Aro at the New Plymouth Police Station, 759 5500.
