LATEST: Police and search and rescue teams are on the hunt for a 46-year-old New Plymouth man who went missing this afternoon.

Ross Gordon Davis went missing from a Carlton Tce address in Westown about 3pm.

Taranaki search and rescue Sergeant Andrew Ross said six teams were searching the Westown area near the back of Francis Douglas Memorial College, and a helicopter was also canvassing the area.

''He is not a dangerous person, but we do have concerns for his safety.''

Mr Davis is described as being about 5ft8 and of a medium build, with short brown hair.

Mr Ross said he was thought to be wearing a brown corduroy jacket, fawn coloured long pants, a green t-shirt, black slip on leather shoes and a black beanie.

Anybody in the area who may have seen Mr Davis can phone New Plymouth police on 7595500.
