The Christmas tree is up and the Stratford District Council is asking residents to put gifts under it for the less fortunate.

The Stratford Mayoral Christmas Tree Gift Appeal asks residents to donate pre-loved and new toys and gifts to the council during December.

Council community development officer Sarah Hamilton said that this year they were hanging tags from the tree with gender and age details of those in need, so people could donate for a specific person or family.

To ensure the gifts find a good home, the council is also calling for confidential nominations of families and individuals in need. Phone 06 765 6099 or the council by December 18.
