Emergency services attended a two-car crash on State Highway 3 just North of New Plymouth yesterday.

The crash happened about 11.25am on SH3, near Big Jim's Hill.

Waitara Constable Kylie Brophy said a north bound Hilux swerved onto the opposite side of the road and collided with a south bound Hilux.

The driver of the north bound vehicle was breath tested and blew 983mcg, more than double the legal limit.

A 26-year-old New Plymouth man has been charged with drink driving and dangerous driving.

Both drivers suffered only minor injuries.
