A woman who fell down a 5m bank on the Huatoki Walkway while walking home from town last night was rescued by firefighters.

Emergency workers were called to the scene, near the intersection of Frankley Rd and Maratahu St, just before midnight.

Senior Station Officer Nick Burke said firefighters, with the help of St John paramedics, used a stretcher to rescue the woman.

"She was walking home from town and slipped off the walkway down a bank," he said.

The woman was not injured in the fall but was taken to Taranaki Base Hospital as a precaution.

"She was quite lucky actually," Mr Burke said.
