Spirits floating high at parade
Hundreds of people line the main street
Do you believe in Santa?
New Plymouth kicked off its Santa season in style on Saturday.
Hundreds of people lined the main street to catch a bubble or a sneakily thrown lolly before the big man made his appearance shortly after 6.30pm.
It was a fleeting encounter for some but the warm, dry weather did its part to keep smiles on the faces of young and old alike.
Organised by the Egmont Lions, dozens of community groups, sports teams, cultural groups and businesses entered into the conga-line of floats.
Chief organiser John Foreman said he was pleased with the turnout, both in terms of floats and crowd numbers.
"It was one of the better ones over more recent times."
But there was only one person the throngs of children came to see, and Santa didn't disappoint.
