MetService have issued a severe weather warning for Mt Taranaki as heavy rain approaches the region.
A period of rain is expected tonight, while persistent and heavy falls are forecast for tomorrow, particularly in the afternoon.
MetService said 80 to 120mm of rain could fall between 6am and 6pm tomorrow.
Given the forecast, Taranaki Regional Council have said rivers draining the mountain are likely to rise and moderate flooding could occur within some waterways.
Surface flooding may also be possible in some areas.
The council will continue to monitor the situation as it builds, and make further assessments if necessary.
