Customs is investigating one of New Plymouth's foremost women's fashion stores.
CC Wards, the popular three-storey department store on Devon St East in central New Plymouth specialises in wedding attire, high-end women's clothing, accessories and lingerie.
A Customs spokeswoman would reveal little about the investigation yesterday but did say that its officers had undertaken an "operational activity based on a previous audit". Yesterday, CC Wards co-owner Roslyn Holyoake confirmed the action, saying they were co-operating fully with Customs. She declined to comment further.
Customs said any decision on what action, if any, might be taken could be as far as six months away.
CC Ward's website outlines the history of the store, first established in 1905 by Charles Cameron Ward as a small drapery store.
In 1984 current owners Mrs Roslyn and Murray Holyoake bought the store from CC Ward's sons.
