A French tourist and German tourist in a Mitsubishi wagon were killed yesterday in a "horrific" head-on crash with a four-wheel- drive ute in heavy rain near Pelorus Bridge.
The two dead men, who had yet to be named, were travelling with a 25-year-old woman who suffered multiple injuries.
She was in a stable condition in Wairau Hospital, a spokeswoman said.
The 33-year- old woman driver of the ute, believed to be from the area, was also in a stable condition in Wairau Hospital.
