A 24-year-old man was flown to hospital by the Taranaki community rescue helicopter on Saturday after a near drowning at Mokau's Seaview Beach.
The man had been fishing onshore and swam out to retrieve his trapped fishing line when he got into trouble.
He managed to get back to shore where he was treated by St John Ambulance personnel and flown to Taranaki Base Hospital with moderate injuries.
