A 24-year-old man was flown to hospital by the Taranaki community rescue helicopter on Saturday after a near drowning at Mokau's Seaview Beach.

The man had been fishing onshore and swam out to retrieve his trapped fishing line when he got into trouble.

What do you think of Maori trying to restrict access to the breakwater?

It's a ridiculous move and won't help.

Good on them for standing up for themselves.

It's a non-issue since they can't fully cut off access.

Don't know, don't care
