A former New Plymouth woman is in a critical condition at Royal Perth Hospital after being involved in a car crash in Western Australia on Friday night.

Kate Salvatore and her boyfriend had been picked up from the airport by her sister Laura after returning to Perth from the United States and were on their way to Margaret River when the car they were in collided head-on with another car near Gracetown about 10.15pm.

Ms Salvatore, who attended New Plymouth's Spotswood College, was taken to Royal Perth Hospital with serious injuries while her boyfriend and sister Laura were treated at Margaret River hospital.

Ms Salvatore's parents Frank and Tina and sister Rose have flown to Perth to be with her.
