Waitara police are investigating the assault of the owner of the Waitara $2 shop by a trio of teenage girls yesterday.
Constable Bruce Lilley said the 38-year-old Asian woman had been punched in the head several times and taken to Taranaki Hospital.
The extent of her injuries was unknown.
Mr Lilley said it appeared the assault occurred after a 14-year-old and two 15-year-olds were in the shop misbehaving and were asked to leave.
