James William Mahuna Brand, 57, appeared in the New Plymouth District Court yesterday for a jury trial date to be set after denying a charge of assault with intent to commit the rape of a female over the age of 16.

Brand's lawyer Susan Hughes QC told Judge Allan Roberts her client wished for the matter to be resolved as soon as possible.

When there was no date available, the judge bailed Brand to reappear on May 14.
